For the first time in history, CCS' Refugee Foster Care program has its very own youth soccer team!

This incredible milestone was made possible by the generosity of a Major League Soccer player who provided a private donation to encourage refugee youth to get more involved in the sport. Soccer has long been a universal language, bringing people together across cultures, and this initiative has given refugee youth a chance to connect, compete, and build community through the game they love.

With funding secured, the Refugee Foster Care staff set out to build the team, reaching out to youth who were eager to play. The next challenge was finding a dedicated coach to guide them. That’s where Muneer, a foster parent with the Refugee Foster Care program, stepped in.

The team is made up of youth between the ages of 15 and 21, representing a diverse range of backgrounds. Players hail from countries such as Haiti, Sudan, Bangladesh, Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burma, Ecuador, and Honduras. Each player brings their own unique experiences and strengths to the field. Despite their differences in language and culture, they have come together with a shared love of the game, forming a bond that extends beyond soccer.

In March, the team took their passion to the field, competing in a month-long tournament with games held every Saturday. The stakes were high, as the tournament champions would advance to the finals on World Refugee Day, June 20. Though the team did not claim victory, they proved their resilience and talent by holding their own as the only adolescent team competing against adult teams. Their determination and skill were evident in every match, earning them respect from both teammates and competitors alike.

We are incredibly proud of these players and all they have accomplished. Their journey is a testament to the power of sports in uniting communities and providing opportunities for growth. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for this team!
